Be Still

Have you ever truly tried to sit quietly and just be still- whether physical or in mind? Frankly this topic is a relatively new concept for me; I have the tendency to go go go like the Energizer bunny. However have been learning bit by bit and slowly applying this into different aspects of my life, especially the last few months. People always talk about “the zone” but really that can be likened to your mind being in the eye of a hurricane- that sweet spot of quiet stillness while everything else is performing at optimal speed and efficiency. When the mind chatter stops, performance- in any discipline- prevails. One of my treasured “be still” spots is a local waterfall. Sitting on the riverbank I noticed some water skippers. They are fascinating insects- gliding effortlessly over the water. Their body structure makes it so they sit on top of water tension. Knowing how well my swimming abilities are (which are not much) I thought I may drown if were that creature- flailing around trying to stay afloat, the water tension bubble would be quickly broken. But then realized no, if my mind stayed still, I would do as I was created to do, easily, effortlessly, gliding as intended. I believe this holds true to all aspects of life, whether it is taking time out of the day to sit and reflect and pray, or in a presentation allowing the mind to be still and let the words simply flow, or in high jump, strong last couple of steps, then float over the bar. “Don’t think just do” only makes me think more.  But consciously practicing being still in many situations, I’ve found is carrying over to my true passion of sports as well as everyday life.

My Water Skipper

Welcome!

Well it is finally here. 4 years of hard work and training, and this is the 2012 Olympic Year! I am so thankful to be able to share my experiences and passion with you, and hope it brings great addition to your life as well!

My motto has always been, it takes a team to reach the top. Legendary Coach John Wooden says, “Intentness is patience with action. It’s not wanting and waiting; rather, it’s being able to wait while we act out a specific plan.” My journey includes a Great team, and a team with an Intentional Plan. Preparation is key, and loving life throughout the process seals the deal. Success is merely the output!

I entitled my blog “High Life Living” because in essence, that’s what we all strive to achieve. Goals are a part of your journey, the journey is part of your life, and the road best traveled is always- HIGH! So metaphorically speaking, whether you chose to relate High Life to my High Jump endeavor, or to simply Live Abundantly, they both win!

Blessings,
Jenny
